I’m a super busy mom, as I’m sure that most moms are. But even with the pandemic, life doesn’t seem to have slowed down at all, we’ve just added masks and zoom calls into our lives. And I’m exhausted from all of that; making sure my kids are in their zoom classes, having masks when we do leave the house, and then just the day-to-day chores and maintenance of the house. But I had a total mom fail moment the other day when my middle child lost a tooth. Let me tell you, she was so excited about the tooth fairy coming. Now my oldest daughter knows that mommy is the tooth fairy, so it's very easy to hand her the dollar bill and go to sleep, but my middle one still believes, so I have to wait for her to go to sleep. Any parent knows that kids don’t fall asleep when they think gifts are coming, so you as the mom have to wait for it and the struggle has been real for me lately. So, of course I fell asleep and forgot to have the tooth fairy visit her and she woke up and was crushed that morning. With my quick thinking, I told her it rained last night and the tooth fairy’s wings don’t work with the rain, they can’t get wet. Thankfully she believed me and the day was saved. I did sneak out to get a small bag of M&Ms to have the tooth fairy say sorry.
The next night, I was ready! No falling asleep for this momma; I had a Dr. Pepper at dinner and was going to make it. But sure enough, my kid was fighting sleep again so when I thought she was asleep I made my move and snuck in! She wasn’t quite ready to fall asleep and when I was in there she sat up so I had to lay down super-fast on the side of her bed so she wouldn’t see me. There I was stuck with the bag of her tooth in my hand trying to figure out how I was going to get out of her room. Thankfully I was able to army crawl my way out of her room and out of sight. She woke up the next morning and was excited the tooth fairy visited her and gave her an extra treat. For me, I’m grateful my workouts are paying off and I could army crawl out of her bedroom.
